THE BUREAU OF QUARANTINE & THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH

The Bureau of Quarantine is a first-class line bureau under the Department of Health (DOH) of the Republic of the Philippines. It is one of the regulatory arm under the Health Regulatory Cluster on quarantine and international health surveillance.The bureau has a nationwide scope of function and adheres to the International Health Regulations (IHR) of the World Health Organization (WHO).

It is mandated primarily to ensure security against the introduction and spread of infectious diseases. It provide routine medical examination; health promotion & sanitation activities and undertakes the inspection and clearance of vessels and aircraft, both domestic and foreign, including those of the army and navy.

Tasked to implement health surveillance and screening of passengers,crew, cargoes  and respond to Public Health Emergencies of International Concern (PHEIC) at points of entry.

What travelers should do ...

In countries or areas where the Influenza A (H1N1) has been reported:

  Avoid areas with pig farms,  piggery. animal market or fairs
 Always wash hands with soap and water
  Cover your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze
   Avoid close contact with sick person
  Wear surgical mask as per advice

Upon return from any country with reported Influenza A (H1N1) cases:

Inform the quarantine medical officer on duty at the airport / seaport if you have fever or have influenza-like symptoms upon arrival
Monitor your health for at least ten (10) days
If you develop fever or have influenza-like symptoms during this ten (10) day  period, consult your doctor immediately
Inform your doctor about history of your recent travel

In case you suspect that another person is ill with Influenza A (H1N1):

Protect yourself by using face mask
Ask the person to use a face mask
As much as possible keep a distance of 6 feet away from the person
Report to health authorities
